Q/ What is Salsa
dancing ?
A/ Salsa is a partner dance, which accompanies the diverse sound
of salsa music. It can be a fast energetic dance, but can also be
slow and sexy. It's also very easy to learn, but hard to master
!
Q/ Am I too old/young ?
A/ Anyone can so salsa. We have taught people from 6 years old right
up to 80 years old. However, for insurance reasons, all students
must be over 16 years of age.
(you are welcome to bring children along but they cannot take
part in the classes, although they can do the classes by themselves
at the side for no charge).
Q/ Will I get fit doing Salsa ?
A/ As with any exercise, if you do it enough, then it will help
to be part of a healthy lifestyle. We make sure that you do a proper
warm-up before each class as you will be using muscles you didn't
even know you had.
Q/ Do I need to have any dancing
experience at all?
A/ No! The beginners course is for those new to dancing and we will
take you slowly through all the steps.
Q/ Do I need to bring anything?
A/ You may be glad of a bottle of water and perhaps a towel. Its
quite energetic and it will get "HOT" !!!

Q/ What should I wear?
A/ Comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement is best - feel free
to dress up or dress down as either is acceptable
Regarding footwear - please
try to avoid training shoes or footwear with rubber grips on the
sole as these will stick to the dance floor surface and restrict
movement. We recommend also that you avoid wearing very narrow stilleto
heels as they hinder good balance. Comfortable shoes that are soft
and flexible would be ideal.
Q/ Do I need to bring a partner?
A/ Absolutely not, just bring yourself, but feel free to bring others
with you! The more, the merrier!
Q/ How much does it cost for the
course?
A/ The price is £6 per person, per class. We will be running
courses lasting 6, or 12 weeks and although we recommend you complete
the course, the choice is yours how many classes you attend.
Q/ What music will we be dancing
to ?
A/ Aswell as traditional Spanish Salsa music, we will introduce
you to modern Salsa and Latino R&B. After the class, we play
a mix of lots of different Latin music.

Q/ Do I need to register
before-hand?
A/ We would advise you to be there early so that we can take your
details. We will
keep a register so that we get to know our regular attenders and keep
you informed of what we're doing.
Q/ Are you a professional dance
school?
A/ David Hynes who runs the company is the only male UKA qualified
salsa instructor in Belfast. Our other instructors are all experienced
teachers who have learned under the tuition of the UK's top salsa
companies. We also hold full public liability insurance.
Q/ Will the bar be open ?
A/ There are no bar facilities at St Brides Hall so we recommend
you bring along a bottle of water as it tends to get quite warm
when dancing.
Q/ Can I join the Improvers class
?
A/ Once you have completed the beginners class, you can then register
for the improvers class. You must be competent with the basic steps,
turns and the cross body lead.
Q/ How can I practice what I learn
in the class?
A/ We will be playing some music after our classes every week and
we encourage everyone to take this opportunity to practice their
new steps and moves. There are also several Salsa nights and Festivals
in and around Belfast. |
